The Music Man Houston Theatre reviews
Long time fan disappointed by low energy/volume
I have seen The Music Man for over a decade now all across the country and this show was one of the most lackluster I have ever seen. The band was just moving through the motions without any real drive and the guys seemed tired or uninterested. The venue (Classic Chastain in ATL) had the band turned down so low I could barely hear the music, even though I was in the pit 10 rows back with a speaker in my face! Furthermore, The Music Man seemed low on volume at the Wanee music festival in April, so maybe the band is to blame for the low volume. My wife and I noticed a very conspicuous sign posted in front of the soundboard that said, "Chastain Residents Are Sleeping!"....referring to the surrounding neighborhood since Chastain is situated right in the middle of one. I am not sure who is to blame for the sound really, but we left half way through the set because it was so bad. I NEVER leave shows early, especially with the current price of tickets. I was very disappointed and drove 1.5 hours home feeling cheated, wondering why I traveled and paid all that money. Bummer. Kind of nice seeing Dr. John play with his band for the first time, but more of a nostalgia trip. I never write reviews, but this time I was compelled to. The Music Man's setlist and execution left a lot to be desired too. Sorry, Warren, it honestly just sucked.
